Challenge
Achievement and Pathways in Sport
The Active Australia CAPS program is a leadership
development initiative. It offers young people aged between 14 and 20
years of age in any sport opportunities to develop valuable leadership
qualities and proficiency through sport and physical activity. The CAPS program offers young people the
opportunity to learn new skills and provide a community service by
participating in four or more of the following activity areas: ü
Administration ü
Officiating (i.e. judging / refereeing /
umpiring ) ü
Coaching ü
Event/team management ü
Sport health ü
Participation ü
Sportsfun and other Active Australia
leadership programs Participants combine these activities to work
through the three steps in the program. Each requires a number of hours
of service to progress to the next step. Entry to CAPS is free, however participants may
incur some costs if they select to attend courses and workshops to
complete an activity. The LAANSW is an official provider of the CAPS
program. Becoming involved is easy. Anyone interested should first obtain a CAPS
information booklet from LAANSW or their local Centre, to become fully
familiarised with the program. Each participant is then required to identify and
enlist the help of a “co-ordinator” to guide them through the
program. The co-ordinator will be an interested person who
is enthusiastic and willing to spend some time with the participant on a
regular basis. They do not need to be a skilled or accredited
person. The participant then sends a completed CAPS
registration form to NSW Sport and Recreation, who registers the
participant and forwards all relevant information. All enquiries regarding CAPS can be
directed to Darren Wensor, Little Athletics
Association NSW Projects Officer, ph 02 9633 4511
