- There are many Awards that are presented at the end
of the season at our Centre
- Here is a listing of awards that have been
presented over the years.
Merits:
Our Centre recognises
the athletes that attend each season by awarding them Merit Awards. Each
time an athlete competes in an event they are awarded 1 Merit Point. These
points accumulate over the many seasons that the athlete competes with our
centre. Merit Ribbons are awarded for multiples of 50 merits. For 200 ,
300 & 400 merits, the athletes are awarded a medal, and , for 500 and
multiples of 100 above 500 they are usually awarded a trophy.
Points for Merits are the only points that carry over for multiple
seasons.
Age
Group Awards
- Our Centre
recognises the athletes continually improve over the season by
factoring in all Improvement Points gained for all age group awards.
- Each Age Group is
awarded a 1st , 2nd , & 3rd in the age group.
- This is
calculated by the addition of the Event Placing Points and the
Improvement Points over the whole Season.
- An athlete gains
10 points for winning an event on Friday , 9 for second , 8 for
third.... and so on until every remaining athlete in the event
receives 1 Point. These points are called Event Placing Points , ( or
sometimes Best in Age Points ... best
athlete in the event in the age on the night
)
- An Athlete can
also gain up to 15 points in the Improvement Points area. An athlete
is awarded 5 points the first time they do an event, then if they have
the same result the next time they do it , then they also gain 5
points. If the result is slightly worse then they could gain 4 points,
and subsequently , slightly better they would be awarded 6 points. The
increment to what number of points are awarded is different for each
event, and is part of the computer program that has been in use
for many years. The athlete cannot gain more than 15 points in the
improvement area for any event, on any one night, and the new result
for the event,( if better than
before ), becomes the new basis for improvement points for the
athlete the next time.
-
- The first ,
Second & Third place in each age group are calculated by the
addition of both these points results ( Best in Age Points &
Improvement Points) over the whole season.
-
- There is also a
Most Improved Trophy which goes to the athlete in each age group with
the highest number of Improvement Points at the end of the Season. (
for some of the younger age groups with larger numbers of athletes, we
split this into Most Improved Track and Most improved Field, which
also comes directly out of the computer results for the season as a
standard report.
-
- Checking the weekly results tickets for PB on them is a good
indication of the athlete improving throughout the season, and is what
all athletes should be striving for.
-
- There is also an
Encouragement award that is awarded usually to the athlete that
attends most weeks and has results just outside the top 4 or 5 each
event. this is to encourage the athlete to keep trying, and the
efforts have not gone un noticed.
-
- There is a Participation Trophy for
all athletes that are not presented one of the trophies named above as
long as they have competed a minimum of 65% of the available Friday
Competition Nights for the season.
-
- Points for the age groups start at Zero each season and do not carry
over each year
